Memorial Day Weekend Itinerary Ideas

Day 1: Arrival and Lake Exploration

Welcome to Kentucky Lake! Memorial Day weekend is the kick off to summer here at the South’s Great Lake! As you arrive at your accommodation, whether it’s a cottage, or private rental, or even a campsite near the lake, the excitement of the long weekend ahead fills the air.

After settling in, head out to explore the vast expanse of Kentucky Lake. Rent a pontoon or fishing boat and venture out onto the calm waters. Pack a delicious picnic lunch and find a serene spot along the lakeshore to enjoy your lunch boatside with stunning views all around.

As the afternoon rolls in, consider a round of putt putt golf or go kart ride at one of our local roadside attractions!  BBQ or Burgers suit your fancy? Try one of 4 BBQ joints on the West Kentucky BBQ Trail or step back in time and enjoy the best burgers at the Calvert Drive-In movie theater! Afterward, gather around a cozy bonfire by the lake, roast some marshmallows, and enjoy the tranquility of the evening under the starry sky.

Day 2: Outdoor Adventures

Rise and shine! Start your day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a day of outdoor adventures. Explore the hiking and biking trails around Kentucky Lake, whether at one of our State Resort Parks or local parks or Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. These trails offer breathtaking views of the lake and the surrounding natural beauty.

In the afternoon, cool off from the summer sun by indulging in water activities such as swimming, kayaking, or paddleboarding in the refreshing waters of the lake. For lunch, choose between dining at a lakeside restaurant or packing a picnic to enjoy by the water. If you’re looking for more water thrills, try neighboring Venture River Water Park, which opens over the holiday weekend!

As the day progresses, try your luck with some fishing. Whether you’re an experienced angler or a novice, Kentucky Lake offers excellent fishing opportunities. Grill your catch of the day for a delicious fried fish dinner to end the day on a satisfying note.

Day 3: Relaxation & Departure

On your final day, take it slow and enjoy a leisurely breakfast as you soak in the last moments of your stay at Kentucky Lake. Spend the morning relaxing by the lake, reading a book, or simply basking in the peaceful surroundings.

In the afternoon, venture out to explore the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Visit the Woodlands Nature Station or the Elk & Bison Prairie for some wildlife viewing and nature appreciation.

As the day comes to an end, savor a farewell dinner at one of our local restaurants, indulging in some of the region’s delicious Southern cuisine. After dinner, pack up your memories and belongings, bidding farewell to Kentucky Lake and promising to return soon.
