The plow has long since made its rounds across the growing field. Effective as the plow is, it couldn't turn every bit of soil. In the spaces it missed, these liminal corners where the crops border other lands, the wild takes root. These places are fairy corners. Wildflowers bloom here unbothered by the bustle of cultivation. Come out and learn about some plant lore. Learn why they're called fairy corners through a bit of folklore , too. A peaceful place is never far away.

Come out and learn about how farm life revolved around simple tricks and methods of cooling off so farmers could avoid over heating in the hot summer sun. Sample some lemon aid or Switchel. The 19th century form of sports drink to rehydrate during long hot days in the sunshine.

This is staff favorite. Very broad in scope, the show begins with some brief history of how we have progressed in our understanding of the universe. In the past one hundred years we have grown exponentially and with the aid of the tech industry we are now able to observe aspects of the universe for the first time. Next, we enjoy a nice trip through the solar system - and beyond. We have lots of enthusiasm for the deep space concepts and many of our visitors and patrons agree. Some of this debris collides with the Earth daily and is harmless. Some of the other objects may also collide with us, but we surely hope not. But we know it has happened before as you will learn in the show. Dedicated nightly searches are carried out around the globe using the most sophisticated instruments and computer software to detect Near Earth Objects (NEOs). A collision with a large comet or asteroid has the potential to destroy an entire civilization and change the course of history. Just ask the dinosaurs. Admission fees apply. Morehead Planetarium and Science Center created Earth, Moon & Sun to help children explore the relationship between our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. Children are helped in their exploration by Coyote, a character adapted from Native American oral traditions. Native American stories woven throughout the show illustrate how we have long sought to understand our planet and the skies above us. In this show, Coyote proves to be an amusing guide because he has so many misconceptions about space. Coyote's confusion brings scientific facts to light and helps students think about how Earth, Moon, and Sun work together as a system. Students learn why the Sun rises and sets and the basics of fusion and solar energy. They examine the Moon's orbit, craters, phases, and eclipses. "Totality" is a fascinating look at all the wonders of eclipses, especially total solar eclipses. An eclipse is described simply as when one celestial object blocks another from our view. This program, produced by Bays Mountain Planetarium, examines what eclipses are, how and when they occur, and what wonderful sights they create. We also look back to a fascinating period in scientific discovery when general relativity was proven with the photographic recording of a total solar eclipse. Our production includes a variety of wonderful styles - from spectacular space environments to humorous pop-up books.
