Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, planning a spontaneous weekend trip, or simply looking to reconnect, this 48-hour itinerary will help you experience the best of Kentucky Lake with a mix of relaxation, adventure, and small-town charm.
Day One:
Stay: The Lakehouse Inn at Sledd Creek
The Lakehouse Inn at Sledd Creek is the perfect place for couples visiting Kentucky Lake. Their rooms are the perfect size for two people, and come with everything you need to have a luxurious stay. They often offer unique experiences, such as wine, beer, and bourbon tastings, morning mimosas, beginner’s yoga, and poolside DJs. To top it all off, The Lakehouse Inn offers a free shuttle service to many regional destinations!
Breakfast: Enjoy the Complimentary Breakfast at The Lakehouse Inn
In addition to all of the aforementioned amenities, The Lakehouse Inn offers a delicious complimentary breakfast. Their offerings change, but they usually have a good selection of delicious pastries, cereals, and of course, their impressive espresso machine! They have everything you need to make your favorite coffee drink without ever having to leave the property!
Morning: Hike at Hematite Lake
We’re using the term “hike” loosely here–this is more of a leisurely walk through nature! Meaning this is a great hike for any age! Hematite Lake is one of our area’s hidden gems. It’s hardly ever crowded, and is gorgeous in the morning when the light reflects off the water. Check out one of the best views of Hematite Lake by walking onto the stepping stones and turning to the widest part of the lake and discover the boardwalk section at the back of the lake for a peaceful serene moment for photos or to create a special moment.
Lunch: Harbor Lights Restaurant at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park
After your hike at Hematite Lake, make your way north to enjoy the lunch buffet at Harbor Lights. The buffet has a wide selection of food, perfect for a couple who can never decide where to eat! While you enjoy the delicious food, soak in the beautiful view of Kentucky Lake!
Afternoon: Private Winemaker Tour and Tasting at Poca Terra Winery
Once you’ve enjoyed lunch and dessert, head on over to Poca Terra Winery to enjoy one of their private wine tastings and tours. Led by the founders and winemakers of Poca Terra, the tour is guaranteed to educate you on the creation of the exceptional wines they have and the history of this small farm winery. After the tour of the vineyards and wine production process, enjoy a private tasting of award-winning wines.
Dinner: Popi’s
For a more romantic dining experience, head to Draffenville, where you will find Popi’s. Popi’s has a wide selection of chef-inspired favorites, southern classics, and homemade pizza. If you want to feel as though you are in a fancy restaurant in a big city, without having to deal with the traffic and long wait times, Popi’s is the place for you!
Evening: Gaming at Marshall Yards
Take advantage of the free shuttle service at The Lakehouse Inn, and head over to Marshall Yards Racing and Gaming. Again, if you’re looking for a big city feel without dealing with the crowds, Marshall Yards is the place to be. Enjoy a nightcap and live entertainment since they host live bands throughout the weekend, not to mention, the gaming machines are going all the time!
Day Two:
Breakfast: Deaton’s Four Little Pigs
Deaton’s Four Little Pigs is an amazing breakfast spot, not too far from your hotel. Deaton’s serves a classic breakfast, consisting of eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes. If you want to feel like you’re right at home, this is definitely a great breakfast spot!
Morning: Golf at Calvert City Golf & Country Club
Enjoy a slower-paced morning and quality time with a round of golf at Calvert City Golf & Country Club. This golf course is open to the public, and you can book your tee time by visiting their booking website. The par 72, 18-hole course has a beautiful creek running through it, giving the golfer a challenge and a stunning view of nature!
Lunch: Mama D’s
Mama D’s is a taste of Italy located in Calvert City, Kentucky. They serve authentic Italian pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, and desserts. We highly recommend the Lasagna Pizza! It is a delicious traditional thin crust pizza, with ricotta, mozzarella, and a meat sauce base.
Afternoon: Local Shopping
Kentucky Lake is home to some of the most unique shops in the region. Whether you are looking for antiques, clothes, gifts, homemade items, homegrown items, or a good deal, there are plenty of shopping options to choose from! Puckett’s Jewelry in downtown Benton is definitely worth a visit for those couples celebrating any kind of special occasion! They feature his and her options plus a gift shop!
Dinner and Evening: Date Night at The Calvert Drive-In
Take a trip back in time at The Calvert Drive-In. The Drive-In is mostly known for their delicious burgers, but they also have amazing pizza and of course, popcorn. When you arrive and purchase your movie tickets, they are good for both movies they show that evening. If you arrive early enough, grab a spot in one of the front few rows to use their old-fashioned radios! If you don’t have a vehicle that is good for movie-watching, rent a truck bed from the Drive-In and bring some pillows and blankets for the best seat in the house!
