If you’re in desperate need of a weekend trip, but only have 48 hours, Kentucky Lake is the perfect place to get away! In this blog, we’ll be showing you just how much you can do at Kentucky Lake in 48 hours.
Day One:
Breakfast: Start your day off right with breakfast at Jo Jo’s Cafe. Jo Jo’s is a place that as soon as you walk in, you know your breakfast is going to be good! Jo Jo’s serves a delicious homestyle breakfast that is sure to start your day on a high note.
Morning: Enjoy a hike at one of our many trails in the area. If you are looking for a shorter hike, traveling with children, or enjoy birding, check out Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge Loop Trail. If you prefer a longer hike, check out the Kentucky Dam Village State Park Loop. The loop goes through several different areas including wooded and bay areas. You will enjoy this well-rounded trail as you get to see everything that makes Kentucky Lake so special. For a complete list of local and regional hiking trails, check out our website!
Lunch: Head on over to Kenlake State Resort Park and grab lunch at The Burger Barn Bar & Grill! As you are walking in, be sure to look in the water below you and see their resident turtles, geese, and fish. We recommend the fried shrimp basket or the catfish sandwich. Both are delicious, and you can’t beat lunch with a view!
Afternoon: In the exact same building as The Burger Barn, Kenlake Marina offers a variety of boat rentals. Rent a boat from Kenlake and enjoy your afternoon on the water. Check out the scenic bays and enjoy watching the wildlife of Kentucky Lake! Bonus tip: Check out one of the best views of Kentucky Lake at Eggner’s Ferry Bridge. When you are walking along the bridge, you can see Kentucky Lake for miles. There are always fun boats driving by, or interesting wildlife to see.
Night: Grab your lawn chairs and drop your tailgate, and enjoy a relaxing night at Calvert Drive-In. When you enter the gates of the drive-in, your tickets are good for their double feature. Be sure to grab dinner while you are there, their burgers are a local favorite! Check out their brand new arcade while you wait for the movie to begin.
Day Two:
Breakfast: We recommend trying out a brand new restaurant: Deaton’s Cafe. Deaton’s has delicious breakfast and an easygoing atmosphere. Eat where the locals eat and enjoy the hospitality Deaton’s Cafe has to offer.
Morning: Have a wildly fun time at Maggie’s Jungle Golf! You’ll find it is so much more than just mini golf. When you arrive, start with Maggie’s Jungle Run. You can choose to walk or drive a golf cart through a tour of different animals. Maggie’s is home to several peacocks, a camel, goats, and more! Don’t forget to grab some animal food before starting the run. Afterwards, grab your putter and show off your putt putt golf skills! Finish off the adventure with one of their delicious snowcones from the Snack Shack!
Lunch: After a full morning of play, relax for a delicious lunch and entertainment at The Dam Brewhaus. There is always something going on at the Brewhaus and it’s guaranteed to be a great time. Their mac and cheese burger is definitely something you’ll be thinking about after you leave–it’s that good. Be sure to check out their social pages for up to date information on entertainment opportunities such as live music, trivia and singo nights, plus themed events!
Afternoon: For our 21 and over crowd, consider hitting the gaming machines at Marshall Yards. Enjoy their restaurant and check out all of the historic racing games and sports betting opportunities they have to offer. While you’re there, head over to their sports bar and listen to live music. A jackpot sounds like a perfect way to end 48 hours at Kentucky Lake.
